The Ottawa Partnership
The Ottawa Partnership (TOP) is a group of leaders from the public and private sectors who provide strategic advice to the City of Ottawa on growing and sustaining the local economy. Founded in 1999, TOP plays a key role in shaping the policies to guide Ottawa’s economic future providing input and making recommendations to the City on important issues such as infrastructure development, education, training programs and creating the proper climate for business.
Mandate
To provide the City with strategic leadership and advice on action required to strengthen and grow Ottawa’s economy.
Roles and Responsibilities
- To identify appropriate objectives and strategies for growing Ottawa’s economy, and to measure progress towards them.
- To monitor the City’s economic foundations, and facilitate solutions where needed.
- To provide strategic advice to the City on key economic development issues and communicate to Council the business community’s position on such issues.
- To strengthen the culture of collaboration underpinning Ottawa’s economy through strategies such as: improving communications, building consensus, and fostering innovative partnerships among government, economic agencies, industry and other sectors.
- To communicate clearly to the public to build and maintain a broad level of confidence in the overall directions taken. To coordinate and review proposals for economic development initiatives that are consistent with the Ottawa 20/20 Economic Strategy, its supporting Broadband and Talent Plans, and make funding recommendations to Council when appropriate.
- To promote the city’s key export-based growth clusters, nurture new and emerging ‘seed’ clusters, and support the economic foundations that enable innovation and competitiveness – research and development, technology, business climate, people, education, financial capital, infrastructure, and quality of life.
