REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Planning and Environment Committee receive public comments with respect to the Auditor General’s report (City of Ottawa Water Rate), as referred by Council at its meeting of October 22, 2008.

RECOMMANDATION DU RAPPORT

Que le Comité de l’urbanisme et de l’environnement reçoive les commentaires du public en ce qui concerne le rapport du Vérificateur général (Tarif d’eau de la Ville d’Ottawa), conformément à la motion adoptée par le Conseil à sa réunion du 22 octobre 2008.

BACKGROUND

At the 22 October 2008 meeting of Ottawa City Council, the Auditor General tabled his audits of the 2006 Sewage Spill and the City of Ottawa Water Rate. In tabling the report, Council approved the following referral motion:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Audit of the City of Ottawa Water Rate be referred to the Special Meeting of the Planning and Environment Committee to be held on October 29, 2008, for the purpose of hearing public delegations and for consideration;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the report of the Special Meeting Planning and Environment Committee rise to the Council meeting of November 12, 2008 as a companion report to the Rate Budget .

In accordance with the reporting protocol approved by Council for the Office of the Auditor General, the authority to “discuss and approve” the Auditor General’s reports rests with City Council. Therefore, the sole purpose of the referral to the Planning and Environment Committee is to provide an opportunity for public delegations to comment on the reports.

CONSULTATION

This item will be advertised in the local dailies as part of the Public Meeting Advertisement on Friday preceding the Planning and Environment Committee Meeting.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

There are no financial implications since this is to receive public comments.
