I help educate parents and caregivers in preparing and serving healthy food and providing an environment where children will want to eat these foods. That’s where adults have the biggest impact! I also have the opportunity to influence the health of Ottawa residents at the beginning of their life. We provide children with a chance to start off and grow up healthy.
The nutrition team is a fabulous and dynamic team of hardworking and creative people. Working with a strong team like this is motivating! Ottawa Public Health is a great place to work if you want to be innovative and creative!

Public Health Nurse - exposé program
Lindsay Colas
|

|
I love my work as a Public Health Nurse with exposé – a youth-based tobacco use prevention program. I really enjoy working with the public and being in the community. In my view, it is important to encourage young people, our future ambassadors, to adopt healthy living habits.
Ottawa Public Health offers excellent working conditions and provides a great deal of flexibility and promotional opportunities. I encourage our successors to come and join our big team, because Ottawa Public Health offers a variety of programs that will arouse your interest. It is a thoroughly pleasant working environment.

Public Health Inspector

Every day my role as a public health inspector is different which is really exciting. My role now as a public health educator involves teaching about issues in the environment that may put your health at risk, writing about food safety issues, and teaching the food handler’s safety course.
I enjoy the morale and the support I have working here at the City. We also have the opportunity to participate in flexible workweeks and continuing education courses that are available to us free of charge. Those are invaluable!

Project Officer
Joanne Kukulka

I work part-time at Ottawa Public Health (OPH) as a Project Officer. I enjoy my work here as an editor of two publications; the OPH Physicians’ Update and Synergy, our monthly internal newsletter for staff.
My position at OPH enables me to use some of the skills that I used in my teaching career. The flexibility in my schedule provides me with some real work-life balance, something I did not have as a full-time teacher. OPH staff are professional, dedicated, and committed to making our city a healthier place to live.

Public Health Nurse - Healthy Sexuality
Tracy Rizok
|

|
I inform and educate clients regarding healthy sexuality, which also includes the opportunity to work in schools and community-based clinics.
I have worked in a variety of nursing positions but it was not until I joined Ottawa Public Health (OPH) that I felt that I had an opportunity to make a difference. OPH allows nurses to use their skills and abilities in ways that other areas of nursing may not allow the time for. OPH provides a positive and encouraging work environment where a team approach is the norm.
