About the program
The prime objective of the Summer Student Employment Program is to give students experience in a dynamic work place environment and offer learning opportunities that will develop and improve their skills for future employment.
The program will provide students with opportunities that will:
- enrich their current academic programs;
- encourage completion of present studies;
- aid in the funding of future educational endeavours;
- improve their ability to find desired jobs in areas of interest and specialization;
- offer insight into future employment opportunities; and
- help learn about and evaluate career options within the City of Ottawa.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Summer Student Employment Program, you must satisfy the following criteria:
- be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- be 16 years of age or older by the first day of summer employment.
- be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program or institution of higher learning on a full-time or part-time basis, returning to school or graduating in 2010.
- a part-time student in university or college is eligible for Summer Employment if the students’ transcript indicates that the course of study is leading to a degree or diploma.
- be able to provide original documentation in order to validate being a student such as a transcript.
- The eligibility criteria must be maintained through the summer employment term; therefore you must be a returning student in 2010 or a graduating student in 2010.
