Complaints Regarding French Language Services

The City's Bilingualism Policy provides for a mechanism to resolve complaints related to French language services. Furthermore, the policy urges the Corporation to promote the aforesaid mechanism.

By investigating complaints pertaining to French language services, the City of Ottawa intends to:

  • improve the delivery of quality services in both French and English;
  • be receptive to citizens and attempt to better understand their needs and concerns;
  • avoid the recurrence of problems brought to its attention; and
  • monitor and assess implementation of the Policy.

Who may lodge a complaint?

A complaint may be lodged by any individual or group who feels the City has not provided adequate service in French. Complainants are advised they are not required to identify themselves when lodging a complaint, and they shall remain anonymous throughout the complaint resolution process.

How to lodge a complaint?

A complaint may be made in writing (letter, e mail, fax), by phone or in person to the French Language Services Division. As well, an online form is available for this purpose. When lodging a complaint, you are requested to provide as many details as possible (date and location of the relevant incident, service or municipal program, etc.).
