Phase 1 - Construction from Wellington to Laurier

In July 2006, the City of Ottawa began construction for the rehabilitation of Bank Street between Wellington Street and Laurier Avenue West. The scope of work included:

  • New watermain and services,
  • Removal of abandoned heating and cooling lines,
  • New underground structures for communication systems (PWGSC),
  • Upgrades to the underground structures for various private utilities,
  • New traffic control signals and
  • Renewal of the surface including sidewalks, streetlights, benches, trashcans, bike racks and street trees.

The underground works were completed in December 2006. Surface renewal was started in late April 2007 and was substantially completed in early September 2007.

The City of Ottawa and their general contractor worked closely with the Bank Street BIA, various property managers and local merchants in an effort to communicate the scope and timing of construction, as well as, developing methods to minimize the impact of the construction.
