2.0 Environmental Trends and Milestones As the world's population increases along with our overall economic prosperity,
the impacts upon our environment continue to increase as well. The true cost
of environmental degradation, however, is not fully accounted into our economic
model. As the world's knowledge base increases, people are becoming more aware
of their impacts upon the environment and are seeking ways to reduce these impacts.
This section outlines some of the observed environmental trends, the responses
of other jurisdictions, global and national environmental commitments and our
local responsibility in sound environmental management that will lead to a sustainable
way of life both within and beyond the City of Ottawa boundaries. |
