http://potsnap.ca/ https://www.facebook.com/PotSnap https://m.me/PotSnap https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-pothole-reporting-fill-app-1.5073348 PotSnap is an Facebook Messenger based, automated pothole reporting tool. Potsnap is very simple to use. It only asks a few simple questions and then reports your pothole anonymously to the City of Ottawa. PotSnap is faster then any other means and hopes to be the tool of choice for Canada’s Pothole hunters. PotSnap is also a proof of concept of a first party tool, for the Universal Reporting System. It demonstrates the use of an independent API to service Endpoints with service requests, using the Open 311 framework provided by the City of Ottawa. The URT expands on the base provided by the City and provides richer feature set that focuses on reducing and eliminating common pain points for governance. As a parent, it was very complicated for me to figure out which EarlyON playgroup was happening on any given day. So I built a repository of all the EarlyON playgroups so that parents can simply visit the website and find out where the closest playgroups are happening when. You can filter by area, time of day, language and age range: https://claudielarouche.com/earlyon.html I used this as a datasource: https://ottawa.ca/en/family-and-social-services/childrens-services/earlyon

danutfmover 4 years agoThe Former Landfills dataset is missing
The former landfill dataset from the old open data portal is no longer available (it seems it got lost in the move to the new portal). Can you please re-add? (it used to be here: http://data.ottawa.ca/dataset/former-landfills)
2 comments0Matthew Darwinover 4 years agoUse OpenStreetMap base layer
The OpenStreetMap community in Ottawa is very active and works to quickly include updates from open.ottawa.ca into the base map in a timely fashion. The old CKAN based portal uses OSM base map. The new open.ottawa.ca should also use OSM base map. In the ESRI platform, the city can customize which OSM elements appear on the map using vector tiles. https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-living-atlas/mapping/new-osm-vector-basemap/

Ideas are reviewed on a quarterly basis by City departments. Approved ideas are adding to the department’s annual open data release plan. If a dataset cannot be released, the rationale will be posted on Engage Ottawa.

areutheregwenalmost 5 years agoShapefiles for OC Transpo Data
For citizens to be able to map and visualize routes/the OC Transpo network, shapefiles are the easiest way to import to any GIS reader. The CSV files provide a lot of extra data (stops, arrival times, etc), but don't give a super clear look at the shape of the routes or the network.
2 comments1BrandonPabout 1 year agoPublic swim data
I'd like to see a feed with weekly public swim data, including location, time, type, and other relevant qualifiers. All the data is currently spread across the Ottawa website and difficult to navigate. Having access to this data would enable useful apps for browsing the data and be quite useful to residents. The data set could be further improved by including other drop-in rec activity data as well.

2 comments1Matthew Darwinalmost 5 years agoGTFS feed for upcoming route changes
The GTFS file for the current transit routes is posted on the Open Data portal. However, OC Transpo plans route changes well in advance... They have already announced what is coming on October 6. It would be great if the open data portal has both the "Current" and "Future" transit files. This way consumers can prepare ahead of when the changes are actually launched.
