The Community Planning and Urban Design Division of the Planning and Growth Management Department has launched a Community Design Plan (CDP) for a portion of Bank Street, extending from Riverside Drive to the Canadian National (CN) rail line located south of Walkley Road.
The CDP shall be the policy backbone to manage significant change in the Bank Street Study Area. The CDP shall translate the policies of the City of Ottawa Official Plan (OP) and its supporting plans to the community level and provide sufficient detail to implement a wide range of community objectives.
The CDP is being undertaken in response to recent development proposals and a need to ensure a cohesive vision for the area as well as consistency between development and OP policies.
Study Area
The Study Area is a portion of Bank Street that extends from Riverside Drive to the CN rail line located south of Walkley Road. The Study Area affects three City Wards (Ward 16 – River, Ward 17 – Capital, and Ward 18 – Alta Vista) and includes the properties that abut either side of Bank Street and several properties near the Street that are zoned AM – Arterial Mainstreet
Study Goal
The goal of the study is to prepare a CDP for the portion of Bank Street mentioned above. The plan will provide a broad and integrated twenty-year vision and guide for the future of the area.
Public Consultation
The planning process will be carried out in collaboration with affected stakeholders in the area, to include community organizations, residents, property owners, and businesses. The consultation will also engage representation from the Councillors’ offices in Wards 16, 17 and 18.
Formal consultation for the general public should begin in February 2011. This webpage, among other methods, will announce upcoming opportunities for the public to get involved.
Timing
The CDP is targeted for completion in November 2011.
