Open House #1

The City of Ottawa is undertaking a planning and environmental assessment study for the Western Light Rail Transit Corridor (WLRTC), which will result in the expansion and improvement of the City’s rapid transit network within the study area shown on the accompanying map. In combination with the Downtown Ottawa Transit Tunnel, completion of the WLRTC will provide a continuous LRT corridor between Baseline Station in the west through downtown Ottawa and east to Blair Station.

The WLRTC Study will be conducted in two phases to address the separate planning and environmental assessment requirements.

The first phase will identify and evaluate alternative rapid transit corridors and result in the development of a recommended plan to replace the existing bus rapid transit system with Light Rail Transit (LRT) between Bayview Station and Baseline Station. A comprehensive and open process with the public and stakeholders will help determine the best rapid transit corridor and design for LRT.

The second phase will involve an environmental assessment of the recommended plan to meet provincial and federal environmental assessment requirements.

There will be on-going public consultation activities during both phases of the WLRTC study, including several Public Open House events. This first Public Open House will provide an overview of the work underway, including information on the existing socio-economic and natural environments within the study area, project need and justification, project planning objectives and design criteria, alternative transit corridors, transit technology, and the methodology proposed to evaluate alternative transit corridors.

Your participation in the planning phase is important. The Public Open House will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
