Study Process and Timelines

The Western LRT Environmental Assessment (EA) will be conducted in two phases:

Project Planning and Functional Design Phase

During this first phase, the City will re-evaluate the potential alignments including the Ottawa River Parkway, the Richmond/Byron and the Carling corridors. These three corridors are very different in terms of their potentials, impacts and technical challenges. A comprehensive evaluation based on technical analysis and public input will be applied.

After the corridor selection, the detailed planning of the LRT line will be carried out. The required operating performance measures will be defined, the functional planning of the LRT infrastructure will be carried out and the impacts will be determined and mitigated.

Project EA Phase

The EA phase of the study will follow the requirements of the Transit Project Assessment Process (Ontario Regulation 231/08) under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (OEAA) and will be coordinated with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).

The timelines will be determined after the workplan has been finalized.
