2009 Winners!Four local writers were announced as winners of the City of Ottawa’s prestigious book awards. Presented annually for the past 24 years, the awards ceremony took place October 20 at Library and Archives Canada. The four winners each received $7,500. Two Distinct AwardsTogether, the Ottawa Book Awards and the Prix du livre d’Ottawa celebrate the cream of Ottawa’s literary crop. While the Prix du livre d’Ottawa recognizes the top French books published in the previous year, the Ottawa Book Awards celebrates the top English. Both awards have separate categories for fiction and non-fiction. Twenty local writers were named in September as the 2009 finalists. Shortlist finalists each received a $1,000 prize. |
