The City of Ottawa commissions local artists’ works for display in public spaces. One percent of funds for new municipal spaces is put aside for public art in order to beautify the space and make art accessible to everyone. These works can be found in recreation centres, libraries, transit ways and other municipal spaces. New opportunities for artists are posted regularly. An opportunity for artists is announced and proposals are accepted for each new project. A jury of art-specialists choose the art based on its appropriateness for the space and on the response from community consultation. Upcoming public consultations are posted online. Public art has been recently commissioned for the new Shenkman Arts Centre and the Shenkman Arts Centre Plaza. |
