Acquisition and donation criteriaThe City of Ottawa's Public Art Policy states that, all artworks that are purchased, commissioned or donated to the City of Ottawa require an independent jury to review the selection process. This policy was created to be fair and supportive of the local arts community, avoid conflicts of interest, and ensures the ongoing professional quality and care of works that become a City asset. The City Council approved visual arts policy provides particular reference to the City of Ottawa’s art community: giving particular but not exclusive preference to those artists currently living and working here, and who have lived and worked as artists in Ottawa. The collection is comprised of artworks in all media that are of interest, importance, and challenging to the community: works of art that allow for an appreciation, understanding and a future interpretation of the City’s visual arts history. No artist can have his or her works purchased through the Direct Purchase more than two consecutive years. Potential donations are submitted to an independent jury. If the donation of artwork is accepted a formal letter is sent to the owner requesting legal transfer of ownership. Artworks are then appraised by an independent appraiser to determine market value for income tax purposes. For more information, please contact us. |
