The City of Ottawa develops and manages an art collection, with a focus on works by local visual artists. The collection not only preserves local artwork for future generations, but also showcases the work of local artists in civic spaces, making art accessible to everyone.

The Fine Art Collection consists of approximately 1,625 contemporary works, by 547 local artists including Lynne Cohen, Evergon, Robert Bourdeau and Victor Tolgesy. The works are displayed in community centers, Ottawa City Hall, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and other municipal buildings.

Acquisition of artwork is organized once a year through a jury process dependant on yearly budget allocations. Donations are also accepted, and are reviewed through a jury process.
