Brookfield Road/Flannery Drive RoundaboutAs of December 5, 2009, the Brookfield Road/Flannery Drive intersection will be Ottawa’s first two-lane roundabout. It is not, however, a typical two-lane roundabout. It is a partial two-lane roundabout with unique operating characteristics. The Brookfield/Flannery roundabout is two lanes between the Brookfield Street approach and the Airport Parkway on-ramps only. The correct positioning of vehicles applies to the Brookfield Street approach to the intersection only. It is important to be in the correct lane prior to entering the roundabout to ensure the proper exit and therefore the safe and efficient operation of this intersection. Drivers: • Must be in the right lane adjacent to the curb prior to entering the roundabout if the intent is to turn right onto Flannery Drive or proceed southbound on the Airport Parkway • Must be in the left lane adjacent to the roundabout’s splitter island if the intent is to proceed northbound on the Airport Parkway Navigating a two-lane roundaboutGeneral tips for drivers: • Slow down as you approach the roundabout • Position yourself in the appropriate lane as you approach the roundabout • Wait for a safe gap in traffic before entering the roundabout – vehicles in the roundabout have the right of way • Remain in the same lane within the roundabout • Signal to indicate the direction of your travel as you approach the exit • Watch for, and be respectful of, pedestrians and cyclists
