Walking Whether you're going to work or the grocery store, walking is a great way to get there. It's relaxing, and healthy too - you can burn up to 350 calories per hour. Walking also helps to reduce blood pressure, strengthen bones and regulate your appetite. Many people in wheelchairs can get regular exercise by wheeling to school, work or shopping. By walking and wheeling, you can do your part to reduce air pollution in Ottawa and make it a safer place to live. You'll be able to talk to your neighbours as you pass by, bump into old friends and catch up with coworkers or walking buddies. Best of all, walking and wheeling is free. You eat your fuel and don't have to pay for parking! For more on the benefits of walking, check out Walking, The Activity of a Lifetime from Active Ontario or the City's Healthy Lifestyles Web page. |
