Council directionFollowing public consultations, Council voted on November 16, 2009, to conditionally proceed with the Lansdowne Partnership Plan. Approval of the plan was conditional upon detailed work on transportation, finances, the retail mix of the development and the history of the site. The approval was also conditional on bringing in outside design experts to provide advice, the holding of an international design competition for a large new urban park and creating new exhibition and trade-show space elsewhere in the city. In June 2010, staff reported back to Council with the results of the various studies and the negotiated financial and legal terms of the project. On June 28, 2010, Council voted to proceed with the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park including refurbishment of the stadium and Civic Centre, creation of a large urban park and construction of a mixed-use area that includes shops, offices and residences. The approval means the project will now proceed to stage two, where integration of the mixed-used design and the proposed urban-park design can be completed. A master site plan will be developed and zoning approvals will need to be obtained.
