Rural Directional Signage ProgramThe City’s rural directional signage program stems from a Rural Summit commitment to assist farmers, businesses and community groups in rural Ottawa increase awareness of their products, services and activities. The program provides signs to help direct the general public to rural destinations and increases the economic viability of our rural communities and businesses. The program also ensures that signs do not interfere with traffic safety and visibility, or add to the signage clutter along roadsides. Phase One was the development of the Directional Farm Signage Program that was approved by Council in June 2006 and established through extensive community consultation. The program is now available to all registered farm-based businesses. For more information, refer to the Directional Farm Signage page. Phase Two of the rural directional signage program is directed at assisting rural businesses and community organizations with viable way-finding signage opportunities. On December 10, 2008 City council approved the Community and Business Directional Signage Program, which will result in more effective signage in rural Ottawa.
