Rockcliffe
The picturesque and quaint neighbourhoods of Rockcliffe and New Edinburgh can be found a short distance along Sussex Drive from downtown. These scenic and stately neighbourhoods are known for their parks and architecture.

Along Sussex Drive, is 24 Sussex Drive, the official residence of Canada’s Prime Minister. Directly opposite is Rideau Hall, this stately home with large gardens, which is the residence of Canada’s Governor General. The grounds are open to the public and make a lovely place to walk and picnic. The residence is also open for tours so visitors can see both the interior and the art exhibitions on display.
As you drive further along Sussex Drive, you will arrive at Rockcliffe Park, which offers beautiful parklands and stunning views. Once a private estate, Rockcliffe Park has a variety of landscape: tall trees, grassy hills covered in crocuses and daffodils in the spring, rockeries, and a pavilion over-looking the river. This pavilion has a history with public events. In the 1920s and 1930s, it was used for evening dance parties complete with a band and glittering dancers. Now, this beautiful setting is a popular spot for weddings.
Once you have seen the parks, take a walk or a drive into the neighbourhood of Rockcliffe to see some of the variety of historic stately homes that currently house many embassies, international dignitaries and ambassadors.
